Pearl Global’s unique tyre processing system significantly exceeds the worlds strictest environmental tolerances. The results are so effective, Pearl Global barely registers against typical tyre processing emissions.
GLOBAL TYRE RECYCLING INDUSTRY
The global scrap tyre industry has been created due to government regulations enacted to address the environmental concerns about illegally dumped or stockpiled tyres. The industry is at varying stages of development in different countries, depending on the pace of regulation and the size of the domestic automotive market.
Many western nations have implemented tyre stewardship programs, a program in which all parties in the tyre recycling industry take responsibility for recycling used tyres and eliminating stockpiles. Countries at the forefront of these types of programs include Canada, USA, Europe, United Kingdom and Australia.
AUSTRALIAN TYRE RECYCLING INDUSTRY
In Australia, used tyre collection companies have typically baled or shredded tyres then exported them to overseas markets for use as a fuel source, mainly in cement kilns and heavy industry furnaces. This is changing with pressure from regulators and the community, and as new technologies emerge for end of life tyre processing.
Australia is a signatory to the Basel convention requiring participation in the monitoring and reporting of waste disposal that is exported to overseas jurisdictions.
Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) is a program established by the Australian government to reduce the number of end of life tyres damaging the environment, increase the recycling rate and promote the development of viable markets for end of life tyres. TSA operates an accreditation scheme for tyre recycling operators.
There is also a self regulating organisation, the Australian Tyre Recyclers Association, established to represent the interests of the used tyre collection and recycling sector in Australia. Its mission is to ensure that used tyres are recycled in Australia, rather than stockpiled or landfilled to minimise damage to human health and environment.
